Nuku' alofa, Tonga

Magically it's Sunday, February 1.   Sometime in the middle of the night my phone updated time and date, and we're Sunday.  Honestly don't know how that happened.  Honestly don't want to know.  What I DO know is that we're now a day ahead and four hours behind Denver (I think).

Who cares!?  It's Fafa Island day!

We arrived by ferry and were greeted by the proprietors of the Fafa Island resort (the only one on the island).  This is a very small island.  You can walk around it in about 15 minutes.  Other islands make fun of it and try to stuff it in lockers.  Rhode Island could be the crap out of it in a war.  But no one else cares that it's small.  It has beautiful beaches and lovely water.  It has good food and a better selection of beer than the ship.  It has pristine restrooms.  It has low slung bungalows just off the beach, complete with beach chairs and hammocks.  I really want to come back here for a week.

I guess Joe will be waiting for me...

We find a lovely place to camp and I head for the water with my snorkel gear.

The coral is not as colorful here as in the Caribbean, but it's plentiful.  And there's nothing in the water that wants to eat you.

After a stint on the beach we go over to the restaurant for lunch.  Not a bad way to spend your lunch hour.

After lunch, it's back to the beach.  I know it's a dirty job, but some poor bastard's gotta do it.  Show of hands???

So besides fish, there are lots of birds here - all squawking and carrying on.  But with the waves and the breeze, they just add to the ambiance.  This one's for you, Mank and KC...know what made these tracks?

one of these...

 a purple swamphen.

After a bit more sun, we head back to the ship.

Tomorrow's another day at sea as we head for Fiji.  But we'll get to watch the Super Bowl in real time!

  1. I can't believe that you just put into writing that birds ADD to the ambiance. Uh, who ARE YOU? And what have you done with Tracy? :)
